Find Balance in Your Life – How to Live a Balanced Life Now!

There’s not a single person on this earth who doesn’t wish they had more time. I know you’re busy juggling many demands in all aspects of your life – going to work, driving the kids from here to there, running errands, etc. Our hectic schedules often cause secondary priorities, like hitting the gym or doing the things with love, to be cut from the itinerary in general.

If you’re having a hard time finding time to read a book or even just take a second to relax, you need to work on balancing your obligations in life. Here are 8 tips to help you find the balance you need in your life:

1. Establish Boundaries to Find Balance in Your Life

If you have trouble saying no, you might find yourself working late more often than not, doing more carpool runs and leading bake sales every weekend. You need to establish boundaries and resist taking on more than you can handle. It’s okay to say no and let someone else take charge every once in a while. No one will think less of you, and you’ll be so happy about the extra time you have that you wouldn’t care even if they did.

Practice saying ‘no’ if you have problems saying this word or get a cat who will teach you about the need to say ‘no’ 🙂

2. Start Moving to Live a Balance Life

Physical activity is crucial to your health and well-being. Even if it’s a ten-minute walk around the building at lunch or parking your car a little farther away than usual, getting your body moving will rejuvenate you and give you more energy. Though you won’t have any more time, you’ll be able to get more done in the time you do have. Plus, exercise releases happiness-inducing endorphins, and who doesn’t like being happy?

3. Live in the Moment to Create a Balanced Life

Many of us get so caught up in the day to day that we forget to actually live life. To create balance, make an effort to be more present during your day – take in your surroundings during your commute, get to know a co-worker on a more personal level, and offer to play a few games with your children when you get home. Don’t hesitate to be spontaneous; an impromptu couple’s massage or girls night out will breathe new life into your week. Maintaining balance doesn’t have to be structured all the time, you can allow some time to be spontaneous in the moment.

Taking up a hobby can also help you focus on something else that you can get your teeth into. Prioritize your time so that you can achieve a suitable work-life balance and find some quality time to fit in the things you enjoy!

4. You Might Also Like to Get Inspired

Do you have a handful of goals and dreams for your life that are collecting dust in the corner because you just don’t have time to think about them? You are in desperate need of inspiration. Read a book by a new author or go see a play at your local theater. Seeing others pursue their dreams and exposing yourself to new situations will inspire you to work harder in your own life, even if that means more late nights and early mornings.

To achieve balance in your life, finding a sense of child-like awe and wonder can be a great help. And there’s a bonus…you will feel more creative too! Feel calm and peaceful to access those subconscious energies that will help get your life back on track.

5. Looking After Your Emotional Well-Being

Another way of finding balance in life, is to release all the negative self-talk that might be running in the hamster wheel of your mind. Practice self-care by replacing every negative word, phrase or sentence with something positive about yourself. Sit down and make a list of positive things that you really like about yourself. If you have issues doing this, start with the simple things. Here’s some examples:

  • I really like that I can breathe easily.
  • I really like that I can get up and move about.
  • I really like that I have good friends.
  • I really like my bed and I enjoy sleeping.

6. Taking Care of Your Body & Physical Health

One of the most important things in life is good health and although we might not have this all the time, there are things we can all do to improve our health and have less stress, no matter what situation we’re in. Achieving balance in life requires at the very least these few things:

A. Maintaining Good Sleeping Habits

It’s not rocket science… allocate some time for the mind to rest! Some people say they only need 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night, however that’s the time we dream, and all dreams have a function. It’s our brain’s way of cleaning up the residues of the past. The brain literally has a spray cleaning system that sprays out residues, but this only works when we’re deeply asleep in REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep.

B. Dream, Dream, Dream

Inside your brain, there’s a little cleaning crew that is waiting for you to go to sleep, so it can get cracking while we’re dreaming. This is called the glymphatic system and there are tiny channels filled with fluid, just like a gentle flowing river. Astrocytes help this fluid to move more smoothly to wash out debris, waste, and old proteins. It’s kinda like the Marie Kondo for neurons! I can hear them saying “Does this old waste spark joy? No? Well, toss it out then!”

A clean brain is a happy brain and by cleaning out the clutter, the glyphatic system keeps everything running smoothly as you’re dreaming away. The glymphatic system is the brain’s unsung hero, working it’s magic to heal the past and welcome the future in different areas of your life!

So that’s one reason you need a minimum 8 hours good quality sleep every night! This will have a huge impact on your life and help you achieve goals, maintain a sense of equilibrium and improve your overall well-being.

C. Maintain a Healthy Diet

In order to find life balance especially if you feel overwhelmed you will probably need to review your diet. You can say “no thanks” to sugar sometimes, yes, it is possible. Also, lower carbs such as bread, pasta and rice. It’s a firm no to cakes and processed food…ok maybe a firm ‘no’ 99% of the time and then there’s the odd celebration. But you’ll probably find that you don’t feel good after eating these heavy foods if you’ve been eating clean.

Minimize alcohol. Where possible, grow your own vegetables and keep your own chickens. You don’t know what goes into the food that commercial chickens eat. Some may give up meat entirely… that’s very personal decision that only you can make.

My personal believe is that a wide variety of foods with a focus on vegetables is the best bet. Some people do need to eat meat, especially those who do a lot of physical activity. Many women suffer from low iron (anaemia) and taking supplements is probably better than not. However, it’s always best to get what you need naturally rather than run to artificial or human made substitutes e.g. Vitamin D cannot replace sunlight entirely.

7. Be Kind and Create Healthy Boundaries

Acts of kindness will bring more satisfaction to your life than you could ever imagine. Rake your neighbours’ leaves when they’re not home or pay for the coffee of the person behind you at the café. They don’t have to be grand gestures – any kind act will make you smile and remind you what life is really about.

Even after establishing balance in life using the tips above, it can be easy to fall back into your old habits. 8. Achieving a Healthy Work-Life Balance

Balance in all areas of life is important and obviously this includes the day-to-day life jobs such as paid work. It’s a part of our lives, but not all our life… well shouldn’t be. Most of us are juggling many things including familial responsibilities, study, spending time with friends, time for fun and hopefully a few healthy habits.

We would probably like to engage in more activities that are fun and inspiring, however there doesn’t seem to be sufficient hours in the day to do so. It’s often easy to feel overwhelmed and exhausted, especially when you approach life playing catch up!

It may be necessary for some to pencil into their diaries, time for activities that are life enhancing and conducive to good health and well-being.  Although we all have busy schedules, time for fun and meaningful relationships where you have time with the people you love will bring a sense of meaning.

Final Thoughts on Finding Balance

To achieve a sense of balance in life, keep a positive mindset, invite love into your life and spend your time with loved ones. Be kind to others especially when someone you know is struggling. But most importantly, be kind to yourself!

All the best and take time to reflect as you take the ‘middle path’.
