Solar and Lunar Eclipses 2025: What they Mean for You & Dates

Solar and Lunar Eclipses: Changing Your Life in 2025

All eclipses represent transFORMation of some kind and 2025 has four eclipses which is fairly usual.

Lunar eclipses are associated with feminine energies whilst Solar Eclipses are connected to the male principle. Solar and lunar eclipses usually occur close together, with the male aspects being more externalised in the case of solar eclipses, and the female aspects being more internalised with lunar eclipses.

Eclipses give us the opportunity to deal with the deeper shadow side of our personal subconscious. Spirit is virtually telling us that transFORMation is coming to our physical Earthly plane. Eclipses give us the chance to align our inner and outer lives as they bring change, growth and renewal. Many wonder about the timing of events, but change doesn’t always occur precisely on the day of the eclipse. It may take weeks or even months before or after the event for something transformative—sometimes even life-changing—to unfold.

Up to two weeks before the eclipse and two weeks after, is particularly potent and especially the time between the lunar and solar eclipses. This period is normally two weeks and is known as ‘the gateway period’. It’s not a good time to add extra stress to your life, so do try to keep changes to a minimum until the dust settles.

Solar Eclipses = Action
Lunar Eclipses = Integration of Experiences

The power of solar eclipses normally lasts longer than the lunar ones, but that doesn’t mean that lunars are less potent. In fact, they may be more potent in the short term. An eclipse can be connected to the original source of events, but sometimes it takes the power of another planet passing over the same spot for the effect to be fully realised or understood.

What is an Eclipse?

An eclipse occurs when one celestial body moves into the shadow of another celestial body, or when one body passes in front of another from the perspective of an observer. There are two primary types of eclipses that are commonly observed from Earth are solar eclipses and lunar eclipses.

Solar Eclipse

This happens when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking all or part of the Sun's light. There are three types of solar eclipses:

1. Total Solar Eclipse

In this total eclipse, the Moon completely covers the Sun, as seen from a specific area on Earth. This can result in a dramatic darkening of the sky during the day.

2. Partial Solar Eclipse

Only a part of the Sun is obscured by the Moon, and the rest remains visible.

3. Annular Solar Eclipse

The Moon is directly in front of the Sun but is too far away to completely cover it, resulting in a ring-like appearance of the Sun, often referred to as a ring of fire or annular eclipse.

Lunar Eclipse

This occurs when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Full Moon, causing the Earth’s shadow to cover the Full Moon. There are also three types of lunar eclipses:

1. Total Lunar Eclipse

The entire Full Moon passes through the Earth's umbra, resulting in a reddish or coppery color due to Rayleigh scattering of sunlight through the Earth’s atmosphere.

2. Partial Lunar Eclipse

Only a portion of the Full Moon enters the Earth's umbra, while the rest remains illuminated.

3. Penumbral Lunar Eclipse

The Full Moon passes through the Earth's penumbra, leading to a subtle shading on the Full Moon's surface that can be hard to observe.

Eclipses can only occur during specific alignments of the Earth, Moon, and Sun and are relatively rare events. They have fascinated humanity for centuries, inspiring myths, scientific inquiry, and a deeper understanding of celestial mechanics and astrology.

2025 Eclipse Dates

An annual calendar containing important dates and statistical information such as astrological data, is known as an almanac. These are the almanac dates for eclipses in 2025:

The Total Lunar Eclipse on March 14, 2025 at 23° Virgo 57′

Sabian Symbol: “A Lion-Tamer Displays Their Skill”

Astrological Meaning: The eclipsed Moon in Virgo suggests themes of discipline, control, and courage in handling life's "wild" or chaotic aspects.

This refers to the specific position of the Full Moon during the eclipse in totality, in the zodiac sign of Virgo. Astrologically, the zodiac sign Virgo is associated with detail, organisation, health and nature. This eclipse could mean it is time to ‘çlean up your act' so to speak!

This Virgo eclipse symbolises themes related to health and well-being, including cleanliness and self-care. Originally Virgo related to the Virgin, the true meaning relates to an independent woman who didn't rely on a man. So, self-care was a given as she organised her life to suit herself. Virgo also has a strong bond with nature, so issues around climate change and taking care of the Earth may arise now.

Virgo is an Earth sign, so planning for manifestation and security may become more of a focus. This is the type of energy that encourages or pushes us to achieve solid physical results in the future. Therefore, other Earth signs Taurus and Capricorn may focus during this period in physically achieving their heartfelt desires.

This is a powerful astronomical event that occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, completely obscuring the Sun's light. This event casts a shadow on the Earth, turning day into night for a brief period within the eclipse's path.

The Sun and the Moon

The Sun is the ruler of Leo, and the Moon is the ruler of Cancer, so these signs are both strongly and always affected by eclipses. Cancerians may also feel the eclipses quite intensely as they tend to be more emotional than other signs.

On the other hand, Leo is ruled by the Sun, which is opposite the Moon during eclipses, so challenges can arise around eclipse times for them especially. If your birthday occurs on an eclipse or if an eclipse occurs in your sign, you are also likely to feel it more potently.

Practical and Spiritual Guidance for all Eclipse Seasons

General Eclipse Tips!

It's a great time for grounding exercises during the Virgo eclipses. Yoga, walking (particularly if you have a dog with four feet on the ground), being out in nature or your garden can yield beneficial spiritual insights now. It's also good to plant some seeds (both literal and symbolic) during the Virgo eclipses. Create routines, clear away clutter and look after your health and well-being. Go for that massage or facial you've been thinking about! Do some 'shadow work' - confront the darkness inside yourself. You may be surprised with what you find when you shine the light of your awareness within.

For the Pisces eclipse: Journaling, dreaming, connecting to spirit, swimming and doing water rituals are great now.

For the Aries eclipse: Do some fire rituals, make a bonfire, burn some rubbish to burn away the past in a ritual. Set intentions boldly - write them down, take small consistent steps to initiate courageous projects.

Rituals & Tools to Use:

  • Crystals: Virgo (green jade, moss agate), Pisces (amethyst, moonstone), Aries (carnelian, red jasper).
  • Herbs: Chamomile for calming moon energy or rosemary for bold solar energy.
  • Journaling Prompts:
    - Virgo: "Where can I simplify or create better routines?"
    - Pisces: "What emotions am I ready to release?"
    - Aries: "What bold first step am I ready to take?"

Eclipses by Modes

Astrologically speaking, star signs fit into three modes or modalities – Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable, each with their own characteristics. Eclipses affect all signs of the same mode more than other signs in different modes.

There are no eclipses in Fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius which basically means these signs will be somewhat less affected.

All eclipses in 2025 occur in the Cardinal sign of Aries and the Mutable signs of Virgo and Pisces. Cardinal Aries is about focusing on assertiveness, pioneering change and initiating new paths. Aries individuals will need to stay grounded, watching for impulsiveness and restlessness. Mutable eclipses in Virgo can benefit from re-organising aspects of their lives. letting go, being adaptable and encouraging spiritual growth. The mutable eclipse in Pisces needs to focus on using more logic and finding ways to remain grounded. Finding emotional boundaries and embracing connection can help also.

Eclipses 2025 Conclusion

We have eclipses in Earth, Fire and Water in mostly Mutable signs with a dash of Cardinal thrown in. Therefore, 2025 presents quite a changeable time. So, it's best to go with the flow rather than resisting the inevitable change that is coming through

An eclipse magnifies energy; it’s like a Supermoon on caffeine, rousing you to alertness. It forces us to wake up, go down a path and take action at some point. Eclipses shake us turbulently to the core in order to effect change. 2025's eclipses are windows of transformation tied to the broader planetary shifts of the year.

Earthquakes, volcanic activity, and detrimental weather sometimes occur around eclipses, so do take care, especially if you live in areas such as New Zealand, Indonesia, or the USA. Eclipses present us with an opportunity for self-reflection, creating rituals and simply slowing down to integrate the rising energies.

Do try to go with the flow this year… swimming against the tide just won’t work. Be flexible… practice and embrace change. Do remember not to look at eclipses directly, look within as the eclipses light the way forward. Use proper eye protection if you do decide to look at eclipses. Wishing you an enlightened eclipse season!
