Saturn Retrograde 2023

Saturn Retrograde

Saturn is the Planet of Structure

Saturn is the planet of chronological time, governments, judicial systems, employment, those economically disadvantaged, and natural resources, including agriculture. Saturn is also ‘Lord of Karma’… he really is not to be trifled with. He enjoys contraction, restriction, and limitation… oh bliss… NOT!

To stay on his good side, everything must be above board, organised, structured, and properly legal. Saturn is also known as ‘Father Time’ and is also associated with elderly people, responsibility, dedication, and hard work. When Saturn is retrograde, you may feel the burden of responsibility more so than usual. There could be delays or things move too slowly for your liking.

Issues with Authority or Governments

Saturn goes retrograde every 12 months for about 4½ months. There is also a ‘shadow period’ commencing a few weeks or months before and after these dates. Saturn has an affinity with the masculine yang energy, although some disagree and say Saturn is neither male nor female. I must say Saturn feels male to me, so I will sometimes refer to Saturn as ‘he’. So when he’s retrograde, issues with authority figures may arise – particularly with governments or fatherhood figures. Inconvenient new laws may be passed, or issues around agriculture such as food shortages may become pressing or more important. I also feel a connection with the weather, although I can’t find anything to substantiate this.

Many people are affected by Saturn retrograde to some extent. But if you have Capricorn or Aquarius strongly in your chart, you may be strongly affected. Mutable signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces will also probably feel this retrograde.

Be Diligent, Organised, and Patient

Saturn likes you to be diligent, responsible, and organised… if you’re not… he can sometimes be stern and authoritarian, especially in retrograde. There’s no room during this time for taking shortcuts or doing shoddy work. In retrograde, he’s in Pisces, bringing attention to our emotions and your ability to be flexible and go with the flow. However, his plan is for you to find practical ways to structure your dreams into REALity using your emotions as fuel to power you along the journey.

During Saturn Retrograde, it’s best to be cautious and responsible, especially as your career or work could slow down. Don’t try to do anything that’s not on the straight and narrow. Saturn can bring restriction and delay, obstacles and challenges. If people have done the wrong thing, they’re likely to get caught now, especially irresponsible fathers or grandfathers.

During the retrograde, plans may seem to be going backward or get stuck in some way. Be patient but determined. You can move forward again soon; just don’t push it during this time. Saturn Rx is not the time generally to take unnecessary risks, but especially with your finances.

Saturn Relates to Karma and Time

Being related to both karma and time, Saturn may bring such much weirdness to such experiences. Time may slow down, so be careful with appointments and anything that is time-sensitive. Watch your time management. The past may come back for you to ‘do the right thing’ or make amends for previous misjudgments. If you’ve been meticulous in the past by being careful, responsible and diligent, karma may smile now by offering you a substantial karmic gift. Or authority figures could bless you in some way!

Sometimes Saturn retrograde can manifest as sadness, tiredness, feeling unmotivated, and stuck. It is a time for continuance, not giving up, and to keep persevering. All good things come to those who wait and ‘do the right thing’. Your Sun will shine again in the future. Patience is a blessing!

If you are ‘mature’ then Saturn retrograde may not be so much of a chore… Saturn likes maturity in personality and in age. For a woman, Saturn’s blessings may arrive after menopause.
