Jupiter Retrograde Dates

Jupiter is retrograde twice from October 9, 2024 to February 4, 2025 and again November 11, 2025 to March 10, 2026

In the in the airy zodiac sign of Gemini and again in watery Cancer, Jupiter will be retrograde. In astrology, Jupiter is related to expansion, growth, knowledge, adventure, and good luck. However, Jupiter turns retrograde every 9 months for about 4 months. During this time, you may feel less ambitious and less expansive. Astrologically, there is also a ‘shadow period’ when Jupiter enters retrograde zone on July 15, 2024 and leaves retrograde shadow April 30, 2025. Jupiter then again enters shadow zone November 11, 2025 and then finishes its retrograde shadow on June 6, 2026.

The Shadow Zone

The Jupiter retrograde shadow zone means that people may experience preliminary doubts about their beliefs and goals in the pre-shadow phase, and during the post-shadow phase, they'll gradually integrate insights and lessons learned during the retrograde. Consequently, this allows for reflection and adjustment in their philosophical and personal growth journeys.

Similar to Mars retrograde, Jupiter also has an affinity with the male yang energy. When in retrograde phase, you may become more inwardly focused and indulge in more introspection. It’s as if expansive and dynamic energy contracts and you become less interested in growing your life in the outside world. As Gemini is an air sign, this could have consequences for your communications or thinking. Additionally, Cancer is a water sign, so you may become more or less emotionally expressive. It's possible you feel less like socialising and keep to yourself a bit more than usual. You might also get a chance to revisit the past, your especially school or university days. Another key point is that, you could hear from old school friends and reconnect once again. Interesting subconscious situations may arise regarding your inner self and spirituality.

Jupiter retrograde encourages reflection on the progress and shifts that have unfolded since may have taken root, guiding you to reassess your direction. Many people are affected to some extent by this transit. However, if you are a cardinal sign - Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn you will likely be more strongly impacted. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter so they will probably be affected the most strongly. During the retrograde phase when Jupiter is in Cancer June 9, 2025, until June 30, 2026, Cancerians also will be most strongly affected.

Effects of Retrograde Jupiter in Gemini and Cancer Zodiac Signs

When Jupiter goes retrograde in Gemini, it's like hitting the pause button on our beliefs and communication styles.

Think of it as a time similar to Mercury Retrograde to rethink what you believe in. You might find yourself looking at things from a different angle, exploring new ideas, or questioning what you thought you knew.

Similar to when Mercury is retrograde, communication gets a spotlight too. It's a chance to tweak how you express yourself, listen better, and maybe even learn a new way of communicating with others.

Furthermore, education, learning, knowledge and wisdom also come into focus. You might feel drawn to explore new subjects or rethink your approach to learning during this period. With more self-reflection, intuition and logic can be rebalanced if you sit down and reflect on the value of both working together.

Remember, it's not about making big plans but more about internal growth. Use this time to expand your mental horizons and gain wisdom through reflection.

Overall, Jupiter in backward motion is an invitation to dive into beliefs, brush up on how you talk and listen, and embrace the world of ideas with a fresh perspective.

Jupiter and Zeus: Rulers of the Sky with a Troubled Past

Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, takes its name from the king of the Roman gods - the equivalent of the Greek Zeus. As the supreme deity of the Roman pantheon, Jupiter (or Jove) ruled over the sky, thunder, and law. While celebrated as a figure of wisdom and justice, his Greek counterpart Zeus was notorious for his questionable behaviour, particularly his numerous affairs and deceptions. Despite being married to Hera (Juno in Roman mythology), Zeus frequently pursued both goddesses and mortals, often disguising himself in various forms - from a swan to a shower of gold - to achieve his desires. These pursuits frequently led to chaos and tragedy for those involved, especially the mortal women and their offspring.

When Jupiter goes retrograde, it's almost like the Universe forcing this mighty god to sit still and reflect on his actions - no more transforming into animals or golden rain to chase after new conquests! This period of introspection symbolically represents our own need to review our excesses and growth directions. Jupiter, like its namesake, is considered the 'Great Benefic' in astrology, representing expansion, wisdom, and good fortune - though during retrograde periods, this expansive energy turns inward for reflection, much like those moments when the great god himself had to face Hera's wrath and deal with the consequences of his impulsive actions.

Take Control of Habits That Don’t Serve You

Jupiter is normally a benevolent heavenly body however, when retrograding, expansion and growth go into reverse gear in some areas of life. But again, if you have a habit that has gotten out of control, Jupiter in retrograde phase might give you the chance to finally take control and overcome addictions, negative habits, and behaviours that no longer serve your highest good.

While on the positive side, there’s a chance that - some may more easily lose weight if they decide to. However, a general feeling of contraction or restriction could also be experienced, and the pursuit of ambition and opportunity could be hindered. Nevertheless, sometimes a lack of ambition isn't a bad thing, it's time to relax, especially around Christmas time.

Furthermore, your creativity may seem stuck or decrease in some way. On the positive side however, there's a possibility of eliminating hindrances that stand in the way of success.

Jupiter's Orbital Patterns Over Time

Jupiter and Saturn create fascinating patterns in the sky through their Great Conjunctions, which happen about every 20 years when these giant planets appear to meet from our Earth view. These meetings aren't random - they actually form a beautiful triangular pattern over 60 years as each conjunction happens roughly 120° apart in the zodiac. Even more incredibly, over about 800 years, these conjunctions trace out a five-pointed star or 'Celestial Pentacle' pattern.

What's really interesting is how these planets dance together through different elements (Earth, Air, Fire, or Water) - they'll stay in one element for about 200 years before shifting to the next, marking major turning points in society and culture. This shift is known as the Great Mutation. While their pattern isn't as flowery as Venus's famous rose, Jupiter and Saturn weave their own kind of cosmic geometry, creating intricate spiralling loops as they orbit the Sun at different speeds - Saturn taking about 29.5 years for one orbit while Jupiter zips around in 12.5 years approximately. These grand celestial timekeepers have long been watched by astrologers and astronomers alike, marking the rhythm of significant changes in human history.

Look With New Eyes

As you can see, Jupiter's retrograde is a bit of a mixed bag of influences, some positive and others less so. However, among all the planets, the Jupiter retrograde motion is generally considered the most manageable. Due to its tendencies to invite reflection and growth rather than the disruptive challenges associated with other planetary retrogrades. Jupiter as the largest planet in our solar system is regarded as being lucky. Interestingly, it certainly is for us, as Jupiter deflects meteors away from the Earth with its huge gravitational pull. The ancients were correct, we are protected by Jupiter!

All planetary retrogrades give us the opportunity to review, reflect and review different areas of our lives. We need to look at a situation with ‘new eyes’ and find a new, more appropriate way to deal with it.

Jobs Most Affected by Planet Jupiter Retrograde 2025

During the Jupiter retrograde phase, certain industries may experience more pronounced effects due to their natural alignment with Jupiterian energies. As the planet of expansion, wisdom, and higher learning moves backward, these industries might notice shifts in their typical patterns of growth and development. Accordingly, some professionals may find themselves revisiting past projects, reconnecting with former colleagues, or reassessing their career trajectories. Additionally, this period of reflection can be particularly significant for those working in fields traditionally associated with the influence of Jupiter. While this doesn't necessarily indicate negative outcomes, it suggests a time when these sectors might experience slower growth or need to focus more on internal restructuring and planning rather than external expansion. These industries include:

  • Large animals including agricultural animals such as cattle.
  • People who speculate such as stock traders and gamblers.
  • Those involved in organised religions including members of the clergy and their congregations.
  • People involved in the travel industry.
  • Teachers, coaches and mentors. Philosophers, intellectuals and the education industry generally.
  • Those involved in banking, law, publishing, journalism and the internet.

The Jupiter Retrograde Invitation

When we move through this powerful retrograde period with Mars, Jupiter, and Uranus all moving backward early in the New Year, it's worth remembering these planetary energies have been influencing humanity since ancient times. Just as Jupiter (known to the Greeks as Zeus) had to face the consequences of his actions, we too are called to pause and reflect during these retrograde phases.

These cosmic slowdowns aren't setbacks - they're opportunities for growth and realignment. While Mars asks us to reconsider how we assert ourselves, Jupiter invites us to examine our beliefs and expansion, and Uranus challenges us to revolutionize our thinking. Together, they create a powerful period for internal transformation.

Above all, remember to practice self-care during this intense time. Stay present, avoid rushing into new ventures, and use this period for reflection rather than action. Like the ancient planetary patterns that have danced across our skies for millennia, these retrograde energies are part of a greater cosmic cycle - one that serves our highest good when we flow with it rather than against it.

Trust in divine timing.

Wishing you well for the upcoming year!
