2022 Astrology Overview

Moving Forward Again in 2022!

We’re moving forward in 2022! Although it’s not exactly a walk in the park, there will be a multitude of ups and downs to navigate on our pathway to enlightenment. Yet 2022 represents a more positive year than where we have been in 2020 and 2021.

Although we have a usual assortment of retrograding planets, eclipses, and various aspects to consider, there is a big deal happening…

Pluto Return in the USA

The USA will be experiencing its Pluto Return on February 21 at 27 degrees Capricorn. This return is bound to have knock-on effects to the entire world. And it only occurs every 248 years because this is how long it takes for Pluto to complete a full orbit around the Sun. Although Pluto is too small to be technically considered a planet nowadays, it certainly packs a punch! It is associated with the Gates of Hell (recently discovered in Turkey) and the underworld.

In short, Pluto is the planet of birth, death, and rebirth. It is one of the Transpersonal Planets. Along with Neptune and Uranus, it is connected to life after death, bringing about a major transformation as a rebirth can then occur. The Phoenix will again rise from the ashes, proud and strong. Pluto is also associated with very deep and dark issues, for example, manipulation, addiction, and control. We can expect to see these issues play out more than ever in the USA, especially regarding democracy, politics, and even the US Constitution itself. There could be a rewriting or reinterpretation of the Constitution in the US courts this year which will have far and wide-reaching consequences for many countries.

When Pluto is retrograde, it’s a time for inner reflection and examination of your mental and relationship health – these two often go together. You might ask yourself these questions if you have a partner… “Is my partner building up my mental health or tearing it down?” “To what extent are there themes of domination, manipulation, and control in my relationship?”, “What past life connection do I have with my partner?” and “What generational patterns am I carrying with regards to relationships?”

Below are the Main Astrological Influences for 2022

Venus Retrograde

Venus Retrograde

We start the year with Venus retrograde in Capricorn until January 29, 2022. But there’s a shadow period beginning November 17 and ending March 1, 2022. During this time, we may review our relationships and reassess their value. Also, it’s not a good time to start a new relationship or make large financial transactions. If you’re redecorating or renovating during this time, you may find cost blowouts or other things that don’t go to plan. Social events can also go belly up. When Venus turns direct, something changes, and we may have to take a new path.

Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Retrograde

Mercury turns retrograde 4 times in 2022:

  1. January 14 to February 3, 2022 (in Aquarius and Capricorn)
  2. May 10 to June 3, 2022 (in Gemini and Taurus)
  3. September 9 to October 2, 2022 (in Libra and Virgo)
  4. December 29, 2022 to January 18, 2023 (in Capricorn)

There’s likely to be miscommunications, misunderstandings, issues or delays with travel, or problems with technology during these times. Mercury is also known as ‘the Trickster’, so be especially aware of scams and cons. Life just doesn’t run smoothly! As with all retrograding planets, we must think outside the square of our expectations and find new ways of dealing with the retrograding energy. However, it’s not all doom and gloom. Mercury retrograde gives us the chance to go back and finish off old projects or things that we hadn’t gotten back to. We can complete unfinished business.

Planetary Retrogrades

2022 has eight planetary retrogrades. This year is looking ‘more normal’ than where we’ve been in recent years. However, the planetary retrogrades of 2022 will still present us with normal challenges and growth spurts to deal with. Mind you, retrograding planets do give us the opportunity to become more self-reflective. We can make positive changes in our lives.

Partial Solar Eclipse

Solar and Lunar Eclipses

We have 4 eclipses in two Water and two Earth signs… all in Fixed signs Scorpio and Taurus:

  1. Solar Partial Eclipse – May 1, 2022 6:28am AEST (Australia) 10° Taurus 28′
  2. Total Lunar Eclipse – May 16, 2022 2:14pm AEST 25° Scorpio 18′
  3. Partial Solar Eclipse – October 25, 2022 9:49pm AEST 2° Scorpio 00′
  4. Total Lunar Eclipse – November 8, 2022 10:02pm AEST 16° Taurus 01′

Change becomes imperative, however, some will have difficulty. An eclipse magnifies energy. It’s like a Supermoon on caffeine, rousing you to alertness. It forces us to wake up, go down a path and take action at some point. Eclipses shake us turbulently to the core in order to effect change. With eclipses in emotional Scorpio and practical Taurus, there’s bound to be a lot of deeply held emotions and practicalities (such as money) to consider.

Earthquakes, volcanic activity, and detrimental weather sometimes occur around eclipses, so do take care, especially if you live in areas such as New Zealand, Indonesia, or the USA.
